Sensing Halloween with the Five Senses in Hebrew

Halloween witch, wizard and ghost

Embracing Hebrew Through Halloween

Halloween is a fantastic opportunity to show students that Hebrew is not only a language of tradition but also a modern, living language that connects with contemporary topics. By bringing Halloween into our Hebrew lesson, we’re able to explore a fun and familiar theme that keeps students engaged and eager to learn. With words like דלעת (pumpkin) and רוח רפאים (ghost), students can see how Hebrew is adaptable, rich, and relevant to their world today!

Getting Creative with Sentences

Encourage students to get creative and come up with their own sentences. They could try writing things like “I am tasting pumpkin” (אני טועם/טועמת דלעת) or “I see ghosts” (אני רואה רוחות רפאים). This is a great moment to focus on the use of feminine and masculine forms in Hebrew, as they’ll notice that some verbs and nouns differ slightly depending on who’s speaking. Just like in the worksheet, where the witch uses feminine verbs and the wizard uses masculine ones, this is an opportunity for learners to practice choosing the correct form.

Extra Practice with True/False Game

For extra practice, use the online true/false game we’ve attached, which has some tricky Halloween-themed entries. The questions are designed to be a bit confusing and playful (just like Halloween itself!), so encourage students to take their time reading through each statement carefully. This exercise will not only reinforce the vocabulary we learned through the worksheet, but it will also encourage students to slow down their reading and fully grasp the meaning of each sentence. Happy Halloween learning!
